Tegai was a swordsmith representing the Yamato school and belonged to Todaiji Temple.
Swordsmiths from the Kamakura period to the Nanbokucho period are called "Tegai (手掻)", and swordsmiths active during the Muromachi period are called "Sue-Tegai (末手掻)".
