This sword was made using Nanbantetsu (南蛮鉄).
This is an iron material made from iron ore imported from the Netherlands or Spain, and several swords were made using this material from the late Muromachi period through to the Edo period.
The tang of this Wakizashi sword states that it was made using Nanbantetsu.
