KAMAKURA period Tegai 手掻 Wakizashi, Handachi Koshirae, NBTHK Certificate, with Shirasaya

Tegai (手掻) was a representative swordsmith of the Yamato School (大和伝) and belonged to Todaiji Temple (東大寺).
This work is believed to date from the late Kamakura period to the Nanboku-cho period. It was made between 650 and 700 years ago.

It appears to have originally been a long tachi, but after several suriage (磨上) it became the wakizashi style we see today. Oosuriage Mumei (大磨上無銘).
