The Ryokai were originally a branch of the Rai school of the Yamashiro School, but migrated to the Chikushi region of Kyushu during the Nanbokucho Period. They were called Chikushi Ryokai and thrived until the late Muromachi period.
This work is thought to date to the early Muromachi period.
